Default Running

I'm fairly new to paintball but the one thing i know for a fact that helps is running. Get all your gear on in the worst weather possible, (rain/hot/cold/ect.) and run a predetermined course that is a good distance. Don't sprint it, jog it and have lengths (1 block or so) of sprints and don't stop, keep going. I have found this very useful. When you are playing for a long time even if you are walking it starts to take a toll. This will help condition you for those long hot days.

It's been over 2 years since I posted this, and for the majority of players I will say adhere to this.

However! Since then I have spent more time on defensive tactics and I will say that it is very possible to hold off a much larger attacking force from fortified positions if you know WTF you are doing. Mostly this involves adopting speed-ball snap shooting, ammo/air conservation, and trash talking (see Monthy Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail, siege of the French Castle).

It is absolutely possible to hold a fortified position with a pump marker or a large air/paint supply with one thing in mid, keep the attackers at bay with well aimed suppressive fire. Combine this with colorful trash talk for every lucky elimination you score and it's sure to frustrate your attackers. In scenario games where the longer you hold a base the more points you get, these kids of tactics can make a big difference. Above all though you have to accept the fact that you will eventually be overcome, but only after you make them spend time, paint, and air to earn it.

The point is, as a newbie you might think you can win a game by camping in a bunker, but as a team player you can play this way to buy time for the rest of your team. If you accept that this is a sacrificial tactic you can have a hell of a lot of fun doing it.

I agree with most of what you said, though you left out a big one in my opinion. Even if you are posting up in one bunker, do NOT stay put. Keep moving, shoot out other sides of the bunker. Shoot from a higher point (standing), to a lower point (crouching). Change it up! If you keep leaning out the same way over and over, in the same position, it's going to become predictable, and easier for you to get pegged.
When you lean out to shoot, do more than just shoot. Look around when you lean out and try to see where the enemy is, and how far they are out. Don't waste your paint/air on those long shots, wait for them to get in range. You're at a advantage for the most part having superior cover.
And don't be afraid to get shot. Most likely it seems like if you're in a decent bunker, they're going to get close if there's a bigger force coming to get you. Keep your head on a swivel and keep an eye on how many team mates you have left.

Well said Drachen. You make a good point about spotting, I find half the time I pop out it's just to locate targets and I don't even shoot. Also a great point about changing it up, knowing all the peek points of a bunker when you get inside helps with this too. Also, if possible locate an escape route, nothing frustrates enemy players more than overtaking your bunker to find it empty because you slipped out the back

I have found the pump markers to be great for this because you can last a really long time and not worry about air or paint as much.

If anyone plays out at Splat Tag you might want to practice up, Darrin's building a huge castle out there.

C4 I implemented your tactics at the HFTC, I think the refs from Wild Bunch would testify to that And I agree that creative, yet not hurtful, trashtalk does make it all more fun. oh and btw "your mother was a hampster and your father smelt of Elderberries!" a line from literally my favorite movie haha

Haha exactly, the trash talk should be just enough to get them riled up, but not angry.

Stuff like, "Oh, you sure showed that plywood who's boss", or, "Hey, throw another $5 my way, you might hit something!". Stuff like that. My favorite, when a team is dumping paint on my position has go to be simply, "Waste it!".

I dunno if they hear me half the time, but man it's fun.

I also get a kick out of using Slumlord's tactics of popping up and shouting "Bang, Bang!" just to get guys to rip 100 balls my way, fun stuff.

I like yelling out diferent names .yelling commands to flank and so on. "Bill go left, Jim and Tom hold that right flank, snipers stay in position till they are right on you." I did this at the Hunt when 8 or so newbs were attacking the Mess Hall. they turned and split. I only had one guy with me. Funny Stuff

Weird cause when I yell it's bad moon they run away. I never knew that people charged when anyone yells. I do antagonize, like stand just out of range and dance is my fav. Or start try to catch a ball is very funny.
