help:)

Hey everyone!

Ghostwolf here beret:). As we all know, The Hunt '09 will be upon us soon! Considering the fact that it is being held on the same weekend ( :( )as Judge Dredd (at Sherwood Forest), and knowing that there is already considerable recruiting going on for that game, I figured it would be a good idea to start putting the call out for Mercenaries.

So, for those of you who won't be heading off to Indiana for Judge Dredd and want to help the Mercenaries obtain a back-to-back victory, please sound off here!

As an added incentive, I will be bringing prizes drool:) that I will be awarding to the Merc MVP and MVT in addition to the ones awarded by Wild Bunch!

Your Mercenary General:

2-3 friends and I are planning on attending the Hunt for the Cure for the first time. I guess we can join up with you for our first year there. :)

We usually just end up joining whoever needs more people; like at BSV we planned on joining the Browncoats, but while we were registering, the people there were saying the Alliance was going to be a little out numbered, so we switched. And the Alliance ended up winning:D So good call on our part I guess.

When is the hunt for the cure this year? I missed it last year, so this will be my first year attending it if I can go. I would love to support the mercenaries, but I will have to talk to my teammates and see what team they are planning to be on.

And once again you will taste defeat, Thalion.

Krutsie, any or all of your crew will be welcome to fight along side the Mercs (assuming you aren't spies for Mustangman, in which case I will execute you myself!).

As for those players who have not played The Hunt before, this is hands down one of the best games in the midwest year after year! Although the Mercs have won 3 out of 4 (we lost The Hunt 3) last year we came from behind in the last 10 minutes to pull out the win.

We face stiff opposition from some of the best teams in our region; Farmland, The Sentinals, Working Class Heroes...

While I will be bringing the battle-hardened BadgerBrigades (some of our member teams that have committed are Shadow Korps, WIP-SOG, Synergy, Gilligan's Disciples and others), we know that we are in for a fight and need every player we can muster! You can be one of us! You can help us secure the victory! Anyone interested in playing for the Mercs can PM me here in this forum or in The BadgerBrigades forum ( http://www.badgerbrigades.com ) or email me directly at scottandpriscilla@yahoo.com .

That, and as MVP or a part of the MVT, you can win additional prizes over and above what The Wild Bunch and Darrin are giving away!

Long live the Mercs!

Very stomped! Even when given a special chance to pull out a win we got slaughtered running vials across the course.

I say seemingly because it might not be the case but the last two years have been a struggle. Plus, from what I've seen on the actual field is that the Mercs tend to have more walk-ons and less cohesive units than the opposition.(Nothing wrong with walk-ons, though.)

However, it's all a game and no matter the outcome nearly everyone has a great time!

In fairness, it's easy to defeat an opponent when you know every single move of theirs. I believe the reason the one time the Mercs got stomped happened that way was that nobody around here had seen an effective spy in a recent scenario game before that point. After that, both sides became a lot more alert, and despite there being a spy on each side last year, both were far less effective as a result.

I expect another hard, close game in May.

Ah... Thalion, you had to remind me of what Lonestar did. In my own defence, the solitary Merc loss came before I was elevated to General of the Mercs.

Having said that, it is also true that I cannot take any credit for the first two Merc wins (Hunts I & II). Truthfully, I take little credit for last year's win as well. There were some unbelievable heroics involved in securing that victory that I was only able to hear about over the squawk box. Sometimes I wish I were more in the fray....

This year will be my fourth Hunt and my second as General of the Mercs. While I'm a little disappointed that Foster/Thalion aren't reprising their Command roles, I'm really looking forward to facing new adversaries in AKA and MondoMor. That, and I'm sure that both Foster and Thalion are positively salivating at the chance to come after me without the encumberances of Command bogging them down. Good.

As for Lonestar's devastating spywork in The Hunt III, Thalion is correct in saying that the end result was increased awareness on my part (I can't speak for Foster, but I'm sure he was keeping a sharp eye out for possible Merc spies), and the same is true this year. Any "would be" Coalition spies should know that we do not do any open warplanning over on the BadgerBrigades forum and I won't be giving any critical intel out to anybody I don't already know and trust. Remember, it's not Paranoia when the Coalition really is out to get you! 300a:)

As for history, I'm pretty sure it was Taz, commander of Warfare, that was the General of the Mercs for The Hunt I, II and III. While I can't speak for him, by The Hunt III he seemed to have lost interest in commanding (as opposed to being in the thick of the fight) and having his arse handed to him by a Coalition spy certainly couldn't have helped. I'm thankful that he stepped aside so that I could have a chance at commanding, but I wish he would come back to the game as I could use a Merc of his talent. If anyone knows how to get a hold of him, let him know he's more than welcome in the Merc ranks.

Thalion, I probably shouldn't tell you this but... we were monitoring your Command radio channel all afternoon (after lunch). The best part was, I actually got one of your players to flat out tell me what it was while I was being transported to Berlin for "interrogation" (1st mission after lunch). It went down like this...

Merc General (me) is being transported to Berlin via helo for interrogation. Transport team includes two members of The Sentinals and one Unknown Coalition Agent (I believe he was a walk-on). Sentinals take the vanguard, diligent against possible intercept by Merc forces (you should be very proud of those girls, Thal. I was genuinely impressed with their movement discipline.). Unknown Agent trails with MG (Merc General) in tow.

MG strikes up (apparently) casual conversation with UCA (Unknown Coalition Agent): transcript follows:

MG: "blah blah blah"
UCA: "blah blah blah"
MG: "So, anyway... what radio channel are we on?"
UCA: "Seven...." (UCA stops walking briefly and drops his gaze to his boots, then says in a very weak voice) ... "or six?"
MG turns to accompanying ref with a twinkle in his eye.
Ref attempts to stifle uncontrollable laughter and whispers "I can't believe you just did that!"
MG: Smiles. "It's what I do."
UCA: Obviously completely embarrassed by the fact that he just compromised radio security apparently never tells Coalition Command of his stupid mistake.
MG: Upon returning to Merc HQ after his escape from Coalition captivity orders his radio officer (the beautiful and talented Squee) to begin monitoring radio channel 7, where she immediately begins intercepting Coalition Command broadcasts. About this same time, another Merc (F.E., wife of Little Brother, who is beautiful and deadly) also locates the Coalition Command channel.
Merc Forces begin counter ops.
Eventual result: Merc Victory.

God, I love this game.

Yes, Thalion has to deal with that slip in communications that day, but I do know, this helps me in knowing that he will be on Top of this important part in our ability to keep Mercs wondering what we're up to! In fact it was our first discussion.:)

Hello GhostWolf, I am AKA, General for the *US* Coalition Forces, HFTC '09. We have not formely met, but I as well as Yourself I see, have attended 3 other HFTC Games in the past, so I am sure we have met somehow or in someway then. I will try to keep this brief as possible so we can both move on with our Duties and Responsibilities to our positions and to the Battle.
I will be first to admit that I am Green in the Commanding position, I normally pass on such things as this, but, when the Invite came down from the Top, I felt that '09 was to be my year to find out what it was that was keeping me from it. I had barely known I was to take the Position when I had read your Recruiting Plea and all the Teams were ready to switch up, it Scared the Hell outta me and then I realized I had better go to work. So Thanks for lighting the Fire under my Arse to Recruit one of the Best Coalition Forces Group so far!
I will be signing up to The Badger Brigades to introduce myself and tell a little bit as to who I am. Not to Recruit to the Coalition, but to recruit to the HFTC Battle of 2009. I realize that like you say, most Coalition Forces are within an 1 or 11/2 hrs. away, but maybe those Wisc. Teams need a little reminder, we Are fighting on Wisc. soil.;)
I will be seeing you in the BBrigades soon, so look for me there, and I would be glad to hear from you then./AKA-Gen. Coalition Force HFTC '09

Warfare in general tend to be around Splat Tag most of the time. Truth be told, we tried recruiting them just for the fun of it (because nobody would believe they switched sides) for the fourth Hunt.

Thalion, I probably shouldn't tell you this but...

It's ok -- I found out same day, but by the time we found out, the means to remedy the situation as a whole were pretty much not going to happen. It had never dawned on me that a walk-on could be given that sort of information (and to this day, I don't know how he knew to tell you -- I only gave the radio protocols to the teams in our group as well as a few trusted walk-ons - somebody slipped somewhere in the name of inclusion, I see that I fouled up the "don't tell anyone" part).

I look at it as my karma for invoking that Lonestar project on you guys during the third Hunt. That said, I too have learned and we won't be having that problem again.

you should be very proud of those girls, Thal. I was genuinely impressed with their movement discipline.

Thanks. I appreciate that. Despite the joking around on the team and the ragging on each other, I am. My sisters have been among the most committed players on the team. While they may not be as paintball-obsessed as some of the Sentinels, I can depend on them what counts.

The field discipline you witnessed was not developed by me training the team; they learned it and made it themselves. I give them full credit.

AKA, welcome to the ranks of those brave enough (or foolish enough) to attempt imposing their will on a bunch of unruly Alpha personality-types in an effort to outwit an equally stupid fool. laughing:) Don't worry, my Command experience is also pretty limited. So far: 1 Hunt for the Cure, 1 Red Dawn and 2 On Your Honors.

The most advantageous thing I really have going for me, besides a genius IQ and deep humility , is The BadgerBrigades. I am truly blessed to have a committed core of players/teams (actually, more like a corps of exceptionally unruly Alpha-types who should be committed for voluntarily following an crackpot like me! chicken:) ) who are willing to dig in deeper than a Wisconsin Woodtick (or a Minnesota Mosquito for that matter... just how the hell do you Gophers put up with them? I once spent three days camping over by Willmar, MN and dang-near died from getting bitten over 300 times! Seriously! It's a wonder that there aren't more people driven to homicidal mania in your state! It's practically a national health hazard! Someone aught to drop a huge fuel/air bomb over your swampy, God forsaken mosquito breeding ground of a State! Sorry... I digress.).

As I was saying, I genuinely need and appreciate all the Non-BB teams and walk-ons who side with the Mercs, but without my BB loyalists at my back I doubt I could engineer a victory against a dozen Slovakian centigenarians, let alone an adversary that includes the likes of Farmland/Damage Inc., Working Class Heroes, The Sentinals, The Pelican Brigade and the rest of your vast Nordic Hordes :character0080:!

As for you joining the Badger Den (the BB's forum), you are more than welcome to do so. MondoMor has already done so and I have been having a pleasant conversation with him via PM. As I've said before, don't go in expecting to glean any really useful Intel from the open forum. We are fully aware of the fact that the likes of Thalion and other Coalition vermin (oops! Did I say that out loud? ;) Love ya' Thal...) lurk there sniffing about, and anyone there who is in the "inner circle" of our Warplanning knows not to discuss anything openly. Feel free to assume that any information you do find is either considered to be of no consequence, or is deliberately planted misinformation.

Anyway.... We expect the Coalition to really give us hell this year and we are planning accordingly to return the favor.

Anyone who is still on the fence about coming to this game should make up their minds right now to attend. This is one of the best written, best run, best reffed and hardest fought games you will ever attend on one of the best fields in the country and it's everything you've heard about it and more! As if all that wasn't enough, it's Good Karma! This game raises substantial amounts of money for research to find a cure for the scourge of Huntington's Disease and this research brings to light discoveries that benefit research into finding cures for quite a few other really nasty diseases.

You can't lose! You get to have a fantastic paintball experience and you get to make up for all that dang wiping you did when you were a stoopid noobie who thought that all paintball was about was shooting real fast and imitating Eminem! 300a:)

'nuff said (fer now anyway).

Well, I see that my Merc recruiting thread has fallen into a deep dark hole on pg.2 and I worry that any newcomers may think that the Merc General isn't interested in having their team fight for the Mercs.

Allow me to remedy that.

I'm still here, and I'm still recruiting. I'm still bringing the BadgerBrigades with me (as many as can come to this great game), even if a couple of our affiliated teams are choosing to fight for the Coalition, which is fine with me as long as they come to this game.

And yes, our numbers have grown. As has our will to win this game.

Also, I figured I'd post a pic of myself so y'all can recognize me before/after the game...

OK guys, I have one request... please don't threadjack this thread with discussions of paint and whatnot. Please keep this on topic, MERC recruiting.

As for you, envision anarchy... know this... our resolve has never been stronger, our mission never clearer. If you think that the MERCs only exist for money, you do not understand my organization at all.

So, Thalion, it should be plainly obvious that Envision Anarchy is not, in any way, associated with the MERCs... it is clear that they are some sort of Coalition BlackOps Unit. I knew your Coalition wasn't above using biological warfare againt the people to spread your ideology of fear!!! You can cease with your blather about having the moral high ground now!

I cant wait for next year ,maybe they would consider changing up the feild. The bottle knecked bridges get old. maybe spice it up a bit and offer time slots where the river is shallow and it can be crossed anywhere for like 10 minutes spuratically. Or even make the bridges more like bunkars for cover. just a few ideas . we gotta give these Mercs a chance.

Well chances are the field will be quite a bit diffrent we like to change things up alot to keep you all guessing thats one of the things that make this game fun!

The field never really is the same thing every year. They try to get different kinds of scenario's and stuff going each game it seems. I personally liked the bridges, because on that off chance that you actually make it across the bridge, and then start laying waste to people was fun....though you did get lit up shortly after regardless lol.

The bridges were really fun both years they were tried.

However, I can agree that something new will also be fun. Wild Bunch does a great job keeping everyone guessing.

Perhaps the only returning item I'd ask for is the final battle. Lot of fun, even though my paint supply disappeared. :)

Thankyou Thalion. I owe you a couple pods. was kinda scary when we had red bridge held with ten minutes left and about 20 balls left in my hopper.

I remember not liking the bridges... Definitely need more avenues of approach for the teams
