What type of head sets are you guys using with your radios. I'm looking for a new set and I want to stay away from throat mics. I've heard bad reviews just about any of them and the ones that does work well, it'll run you about $250+.

Here's what I'm currently using. Its a snug fit under my e-vent.

I use a Motorola 56320B (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=motorola+56320B&btnG=Search+Products&hl=en&cid=17829358996808503207) headset. It's comfortable (I forget I have it on) and I can hear and be heard clearly. It's also much cheaper than the good throat mics that are so popular. It doesn't have a remote PTT button, so I have to reach over to my radio pocket to click the radio's button.

I don't use it as often as I used to -- radio discipline is awful at most scenarios and FRS is only practical when trying to communicate with a very small group of mature people.

how comfortable are they when worn inside of the mask? Does it press on your ears.

Nope. After two minutes I don't even feel it, even when the mask is on.

If you can fit your current headset under your mask and it's a "snug" fit, you won't have any problem with the 56320B.

I bought mine at Gander Mountain, but I've seen them just about everywhere FRS radios are sold.

Thats not my real head set. Its a picture to show how uncomfortable a headset can be if its not an ear bud type. Thanks, I'll look into those.

I use the Kenwood 3 Wire Discrete Earpiece, Mic & PTT (Black)

But run the push mic up to my collar under my chin. Works great. Never in the way.

I use a speaker mic, much like you see on police officers. The remote mic has a plug for an ear piece that wraps around your ear and works very well. Once it is in place, I forget all about it.

Found them both on ebay.help:)

I wandered around Cabela's on Friday evening, and found a couple of 56320B headsets for $9.16. I bought one for a spare.

They only work with Motorola radios, though; the plug is too long for other brands.
