Stratego
A Game of Strategy and Skill
The game of stratego is a secret game of numbers on the battlefield. The game starts with two teams divided up evenly. Hopefully you have a large number of players to divide up, and a large playing field to play this game.
Once teams are divided up, the general assigns numbers to people and hands out index cards with their number on it. This number card is put into a pocket for later use. The numbers should ideally be:
One - 1 (team general)
One - 2
Two - 3s
Two - 4s
Two - 5s
Two - 6s
Four - 7s
Four - 8s
Four - bombs
the rest are 9s
This selection can be done randomly or by general’s discretion. If you have less people, plan your numbers accordingly so that you can assign a decent allotment of numbers to players. Once the whistle blows and the game starts, players rush out and play capture the flag. When a player is hit, the person hitting the player and the hit player walk up to each other the safest way they can without getting hit and show each other the card they have. The lower number player actually wins the skirmish, and the higher number
player walks off the field.
When this exchange happens, no one should shoot the two players or train their markers on them for later firing. The two players will have their guns in the air to signify they are not to be shot at. Once the winning player is revealed, that person is allowed to walk back to a safe area and drop his/her marker back down whenever they feel safe enough. They then return to the game however they can and reach the front line again.
Only the two players in the shoot out should approach each other. Without any verbal or body language cue should they ever communicate to fellow players what number the other person has in their possession. During the game, however, friendly players can reveal their numbers to other teammates at any time. This might be helpful if the team thinks there is someone of low number that needs to be eliminated on the other side.
Bomb players destroy any player on the field, with the exception of “8” players. These players eliminate the bomb players with a successful “deactivation” when they shoot a bomb player. The game ends when either one side is eliminated, or one player has touched the opposing flag. Again, caution and fair play should be paramount with this game. There will be stray fire at some of these mass skirmishes, so please use discretion and forgiveness if you get hit while trying to reveal your number to someone.
Those are just some of the many scenario ideas I have. Many more are in my books. www.scenariopaintballbook.com (http://www.scenariopaintballbook.com/) if you want to check them out and order them.
