Just got a email saying Tippmann is eliminating the basic X7, leaving the Phenom as the only choice for the X7 platform.

Thats because they now have the X7 Phenom and the X7 Phenom Mechanical..
Now.. the mechanical version of the Phenom is just an X7 so... Lol

except the phenom is essential a mech spool valve. so its regulated and shoots smoother

X7 != X7 Phenom mechanical
The X7 is another blowback based on the same old Tippmann platform as always.
The X7 Phenom is completely internally different, with the only real commonality being external appearances and the cyclone feed.

But the mechanical version of the phenom is still a spooly.

It is the same set up as the phenom, which can run electric or mechanical. Basically it's just a different grip. You do have the option to buy the mechanical, and in the future purchase the e-grip and slap it on! They should have done this to begin with with the X7 instead of having just another version of the A5, really.

Is the regular A5 have it available to have a Phenom style frame/grip? I don't like the fake magazine's at all on markers, but would love it if it would be available for different Tippmann markers, mainly the 98 myself.

No, the internals are too different.
I'm not even sure how they'd make an adapter for the A5. I suppose it's possible they could, but I don't know how or if they would.

That sucks. Too bad that cyclone is such a huge target, and on the right side. Messes it up for us lefties.

you could always modify it for a center feed, or move the cyclone to the left side. Both would be feasible, just a bit of re-arranging of parts, and maybe a new cyclone shell.

That's true. Though it seems like an awful lot of work, and customizing...and I'm lazy lol. I guess anything is possible though.

If you're sighting over the marker instead of from the side of it, the cyclone is better for lefties since it'll be inside (behind cover) for them when shooting strong side instead of sticking outside the cover as a big target.

Tacamo is releasing a functioning mag kit for the Tippmann markers. It basically gives you new receiver halves, and eliminates the cyclone. Kinda turns it into a mag-fed Milsig STYLE marker.

The magfed idea is nice, and I dont think that modding an a-5 would be all that hard. Just JB weld up the cyclone feed port, then drill out a center feed, and tap for ego/whatever threaded feednecks. then you could use whatever. But depending on the loader, not as reliable as a modded cyclone. but still, throw a rotor on and you can do ~50bps :D

Kind of a cool idea, but wouldn't it be more cost effective to just buy the Milsig at that point instead of buying a Tippmann + Tacamo mag kit?

if you preorder the kit for 60 and already have a tippman then its not...but a phenom + mag kit would be cheaper since the phenom will go electro and the milsig wont..base milsig is $394.95 with the mag
