They lost their assets earlier and were stuck in a "no man's land" for a while.
Now we know what really happened.

Well, Chapter 11 means reorganization (not liquidation), so they may be back yet.
However, they don't currently own their own Intellectual Property, and I don't know whether they'll get it back after reorganization or not:
According to USPTO, the IP was re-assigned to PNC Bank in February 2008, presumably as collateral for a loan.

Well....it IS Smart Parts...they will likely still come out on top, without much consequence. Lots of companies go the Chapter 11 route to save themselves from going completely under. I can't see SP going down for good...

Smart parts
I don’t know about other smart part marker owners but enough is enough.
Trying to get any sense out of Smart parts is an absolute disgrace.
Trying to get any response out of Smart parts is an absolute disgrace.
Trying to locate or get parts from Smart parts is an absolute disgrace.
Smart parts informing people needing parts to go jump or hold your breath is an absolute disgrace.
I understand Smart parts are in the process of going belly up so my advice to anyone owning a Smart part product to get rid of it and never look at another smart part product ever again.
Smart parts while they are in the process of going belly up seem to be trying to bring others down by threatening legal action against anyone selling their smart parts or any part fitting their markers.
Even the people developing their parts and products do not want anything to do with then and have advised me don’t get stuck with a lemon.
How in the heck are owners of smart parts products able to find or source parts when they are needed!!
I wish smart parts a painful but quick exit so they can not contaminate the rest!!

Actually there are plenty of parts out there still to keep smart parts guns running for many years to come, IMO. Especially Ions at least, but there are also a decent amount of companies that make aftermarket parts for other SP guns too.

I've never seen a shortage of parts for SP markers if needed.
I don't own any SP markers, but I hold no ill will towards them and it's a sad day when someone who brought a new market to paintball (the entry-level/lower end electro-pneumatic) that does so much for the players (by giving those just getting into the sport affordable options with superior performance to the blowbacks of comparable price) go under.

This makes me want to dig out my old FF Impulse for a winter project.
Shmalitics, Ballatics.
If I only "supported" those Co's that sailed there ships in my direction, well I bet I'd be lost at sea. IMO the ION brought a lot of people into the game (good or bad).
