An 8-Hour Scenario Paintball Event!
Splat Tag • Hudson, Wisconsin
Browncoats vs. Alliance Forces
$30 in Advance ~ $35 Day of Event
Pre-register at www.splattag.com (http://www.splattag.com/) or CC Military Surplus
(I'll let you know when the pre-registration begins)
The game is basically, Serenity Valley, but the field will be divided up into the many planets from that series. Persephone, Miranda, the planet where Jayne is a folk-hero, etc. Each base at Splat Tag will be one of those planets. Players would be divided into the two factions, the Alliance and the Independents, or Browncoats. The third element is the Reavers, courtesy of Damage Inc. They will start at the northern-most plot of land and come in any direction to mess with either side, causing havoc.
Generals for this game are Malcolm Reynolds, and The Operative from the movie, Serenity. They, in turn, will send out their troops to not only hold planets, but locate various objects on the field and bring them back for points. Anyone coming to the game dressed up in costume would garner additional points for their side.
Tanks are considered spaceships for the game. Each tank will drag a length of rope behind it allowing up to five players to grab it and be "transported" from planet to planet. They cannot let go anywhere else, but only on planets. Players are invulnerable to personal attack while onboard. The only way you can eliminate those players is by eliminating the tank itself with a Nerf rocket.
I'll have more information when it becomes available, but this should be a really good scenario event in addition to Darrin's Giant Big Games! beret:)
Thalion

I am officially in.
Browncoats all the way :)
Also, are players being "transported" also eliminated if the tank is hit by a LAW?
Thanks,
Badger
12-13-2007, 03:17 PM
Here is what I have from my notes about tanks:
Tanks vs. Battleships.
Tanks will be onhand for each team. Tanks are used as normal, and can have mission items carried inside it to complete the mission for points. Tanks are considered spacecraft. Tanks must “land on a planet” to unload their cargo. Should a tank be eliminated via Nerf rocket in “space” the item is lost. Also, all players aboard a tank during it’s destruction are also eliminated. If the tank is eliminated at a planet base, the item is dropped at the base.
Battleships, by contrast, are a group of 10 players that move as a tight-knit unit, no further than 3 feet away from their fellow man, and can shoot as necessary. Battleships are only eliminated if an opposing player can either shoot the target on the end of a tennis ball, or by Nerf rocket to the referee’s person. All paintball hits to battleship players do not count.
Battleships last for 20 minutes only, and if the time ends “in space,” all players are instantly eliminated. If it ends at a base, players can separate and play as normal. There is no reconnection after players decide to disband. Battleships can hold players with mission props, but those players are eliminated as normal. They must also drop their prop where they received their hit. No battleship member can carry a mission object.

Thanks so much for this incredible interest, guys!!! Please, now that 2008 is here, help me spread the word to as many paintballers as you know. The bigger this game gets, the more fun every player will have. I've got some teams from Chicago lined up to make the trip too.
At this point, I can probably start looking for generals for the game. If any of you would like to volunteer to be either Malcolm Reynolds or the Operative for the Alliance, let me know.

GAME UPDATE: January 6, 2008
I plan on having a bunch of other prizes, but the TOP PRIZE will be a one of a kind modified Tippmann A-5 marker that I'm calling "Vera." The lucky winner of this marker will have a gun unlike any other player in the paintball realm.
Here are some pictures to whet your appetites:

That's insane... looks really front heavy and kind of bulky. Still looks nice.
Is that a gas line I see in the frame going to the launcher? Powered by the same air source that powers the marker?
Badger
01-07-2008, 11:06 PM
Yes, the air source is in that boxy metal area just above the M203. You don't have to hook up to a remote line to a tank on your back. It's all self-enclosed. This marker is NOT really for small children, but their dad's will LOVE it. lol beret:)

WE HAVE A RIVER TAM CHARACTER!
Everyone, please welcome "Ninja" from the Sentinels to be our River Tam for this game. Her job will be a neutral character, one that both sides can control if they find her first. Watch out, she is a very dangerous person to have against you, and if you're not careful, she even has the power to take out your guys too!

As for the rest of the Sentinels, we'll be joining Mustangman and the Browncoats.
Sounds like a great game so far.
She may be sporting a yellow head band for a while........:D
Badger
01-09-2008, 07:17 AM
I should make this rule clear.
She will be immune to your shots, kind of like how no Reaver could successfully attack her at the end of the Serenity movie. You can nail her handlers, however, and free her back to a neutral state, but she can go through you guys like a knife through butter. beret:)
I'll release a FULL set of rules ASAP. I know a lot of people are starting to have questions, so I'll get on that and make that available.
Thanks,

Badger, what about knife kills? As you know, every deserving member of Damage carries one and Darrin allows the use of them. Would a knife kill count, or is she more like a terminator?

While we're on the subject, what about nerf rounds? For example, hitting a fort with one normally takes out all in it. Would she remain as a lone survivor, or also be eliminated?
Ah, the beginning of the "What ifs....."

I LOVE the energy behind this game.
All it takes is a new paintball scenario with an interesting plot to get the energy going. I've been a Firefly/Serenity fan for years, and Ninja's a huge "River Tam" fan. For many of the Sentinels, this is a great game concept (and you have no idea how happy Ninja is right now :p )

Knife Kills? Being a life time Martial artist,Can I defend myself? how about Spung Nunchaku?, LOL I think we should eliminate close confrontation, I'm not going to let someone walk up and knife me without me using the numerous defence moves and counters I've tought and used. (not like I ever would playing paintball) you get my point tho. on a serious note(Update,I have seen the light on the use of knives,"A respectable Barrel Tag") Woodland Security has been recruited by Mustangman and will join the browncoats for this event. 50 bucks says I end up getting Knifed ,LOL,
Badger
01-12-2008, 10:42 PM
Everyone,
While I run the show for this upcoming Battle of Serenity Valley game, we must ALL kneel before the mighty Darrin in this case. Whatever rules or denials Darrin typically has for his field, they come into play for this game too. If Darrin allows paintball knives, then they come into play. If Darrin wants to suspend the practice, then so be it. We are playing on Darrin's field, using Darrin's insurance policy for the event. I'll make as many rules as I can to keep things fair, but ultimately, Darrin has the final say.
I hope all can agree to that. :D
On a positive side note, I'm working with a fellow team member on the BSV website, and will have it up and running for everyone to start pre-registering this Sunday evening. Come Hell or high water, I'll make sure it's ready to publish.
I've also sent out a bunch of emails to some major paintball product manufacturers to see if they are willing to go in on this game too. We'll see who responds. I'd love to be able to hand out more than just one cool marker for this game, as well as other cool prizes. Vera is a definite, but I want to hand out a bunch of other stuff too. beret:)
Let's ALL misbehave on July 20th!!!!
~Badger
Knife use is more of a honorable barrel tag. Not used as a thrust, but more a slice.
If knifes are not allowed, we oblige as always.

Here it is, folks!!!
Ok, now it's question time...
Are the "handlers" decided before the game? Or is this something you have to earn?
Badger
01-14-2008, 07:07 AM
Handlers are volunteered individually or chosen by generals if he/she has a particular person in mind. Handlers would be volunteered first, then chosen by a general second. Handlers will be handlers all throughout the game, they are never transferred.
Browncoats handlers will be the roles of Simon Tam and Shepard Book. I'll think of something soon on how to recognize those two.
Alliance handlers are the "Hands of Blue" characters from the TV show. They will wear non-latex blue gloves (yes, you can cut off the fingers a bit to allow for air).
Badger
01-14-2008, 05:24 PM
Thalion has accepted the position of one of the Browncoat handlers!
Tippmann Sportshas become the official marker for this event, and is giving me one X-7 to give out to a lucky pre-registrant, so sign up now at www.bsvscenariogame.com!
Actionvillage.com has also decided to help sponsor this game, so I have added 20 Tshirts and 5 $50 gift certificates to add to the growing pile of paintball prizes!

Hey Badger, quite a Game you have cooking up here, although I'm not up on the scenario aspect of scerenity valley, but if its a Game and its at Splat-Tag and theres shooting involved, then we're there. You're doing a great job, and a lot of time consuming work, so We'll help spread the word so it all pays off. Have you come up with a Maximum of players allowed yet? One other thing, Great Game Web-Site, I should have my Pre-Pay in when my card turns Plastic again.:D Can't wait for the rules, so I know more about the Game Scenario./AKA
Badger
01-14-2008, 11:38 PM
Thanks, AKA!
So far, I'm putting a max at 400 players. The rules of any Splat Tag game are up, along with BSV specific rules are now up too on the site. I just also uploaded information on what planets will be in play from the show/movie.
If you could help me get the Illustrator version of the Splat Tag map, I'll convert it to BSV planets and get that out to people too.
As far as being a scenario game, I'm somewhere between a GBG, and a Wayne Dollack event. You'll have missions to complete, but they're nowhere near as complicated as WD's to figure out.
Badger beret:)
(Take some time in the months ahead to purchase or Netflix the series, then the movie. You'll get a better idea of the storyline, and a better flair for the game.)

You guys won't regret it either. It's good work on its own, not just a "watch this so you understand it" deal.
Maybe I'm a little biased... self-proclaimed sci-fi geek for a few shows, including (obviously) Firefly and the film Serenity.
The series isn't long at all. If you're really short on time and can't catch the series, the film is fairly stand alone. There's details that won't be caught without the series, but it works.
I'd recommend all of it though.
Lastly, I'm guessing that unless the other Browncoat handler volunteer really wants the job, I'll just arbitrarily go with Shepherd Book. As funny as it would be to have actual siblings portray a different set of siblings, the "fighting preacher" fits more.
"Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?"
"Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps."

Badger, you may have already found this, but here's a site with Serenity screencaps (http://leavemethewhite.com/caps/thumbnails.php?album=73).
Edit: The Reavers look like they'll have a lot of fun in this game. I can picture Damage, Inc. doing a good job with this.
...[Reavers] are only out there to destroy as many mission attempts, eliminate players, and cause game havoc as much as they can. They cannot be bartered with, reasoned with, or make agreements/alliances with either side. Their job is to create chaos.
I was going to be a Browncoat, but this looks like too much fun to miss.

Sadly, that's not going to work with my employer. However, it is not out of the question to run with a wig for the day.
Guess I'll have to save those pennies up for myself.
I'd also consider the facepaint needed to appear the correct race, but after those football players on Haloween and their misfortunes that transpired as a result, I probably will not to avoid any University penalties.

Not correct, based on the official rules on the webpage.
"River Tam can be eliminated by normal means, even by Reaver characters. She reinserts with a referee wherever she wishes on the field, provided it's near the middle of the field and not currently occupied by players, and eliminates anyone she wishes until under control again."
Sorry, but the official rules beat out anything said earlier on a forum. My guess is it's a work-in-progress and Badger found a balancing issue with giving River that much power.
Badger
01-28-2008, 10:52 PM
Thalion is right, she can be eliminated. The only ones that canNOT eliminate her are the handlers: the Hands of Blue (2), Shepard Book, and Simon Tam. In other words, the two handlers for each side. For everyone else, she's fair game.

The only way you can secure your spot is to sign up now, so no one else fills your spot before you. The only closed spots are the generals, their XOs, the handlers, Reavers, and River characters. Don't take my answer as definite, but usually at games like this they try to keep teams together. He may move teams around as he sees fit to make this as fair a game as possible.

I'll do whatever I can to make sure you get to play alongside your teammates from your scenario team. I don't see the need to break up team members. The individuals who show up will have to be my mortar that fills in the gaps. beret:)

still hoping to go but after 2weeks in italy, jet leg, then 1 week of summer camp (the fun outdoors kind) I don't know how I'll feel for this but I might not get the money together for it before reg with dday.
So, Badger.
Damage wants to be able to field more than 10 at a time. Seeing as this will be a bigger game we would like to be able to field as many mates as we can. It will just make the game that much more fun.

Hey Ed D,
I was thinking about that very subject this weekend. While I want to give every Damage Inc. member a shot at being a reaver, I just want to make the game balanced. I'd hate to see that neither side can accomplish ANY mission because of a constant reaver threat. However, if I have a game with TONS of players for both sides, then having all Damage, Inc. guys be reavers wouldn't be that much of a problem.
What I'm considering is this, perhaps: have 10-15 definite slots for Reavers. If need be, allow you guys to swap out reaver characters throughout the day, so you guys aren't always running around tired as can be. If I get a large enough crowd, then allow for more reaver slots. It's tough to say in February, but I'll know more as people really start pre-registering, and/or as we get closer to the day of game.
I wanted to talk to you guys in person down in Kansas City about the game, but finances kept me back. Sorry about that.
Does that help out?
Badger
Yup.
Ill post that on Damages forum and see how the consensus feels. Ill will let you know......

I pretty much have it all laid out how I want this game to go. In the coming months, I'll have ironed out any glitches I see might happen, so the game runs as smooth as can be for you all. I just want a ton of people there so I can raise a decent amount of money for MMFF. If I can't actually serve, I can at least help out in this way!

Just so everyone is up to date, our characters are so far:
Browncoats:
Mustangman - Malcolm Reynolds (general)
Thalion - Simon Tam (handler)
Alliance:
Spyder - The Operative (general)
Badmoon - Hands of Blue (handler)
Bizzare87 - Hands of Blue (handler)
Jinxed Ninja - River Tam
Damage Inc. - Reavers
Therefore, we still need XO's for either side and "Shepard Book" as another Browncoat handler.
Side note: I'm currently in the lead on the Tiberius Owners Group forums, but I want to make sure I win it to offer you guys a T-9 come game day. Please, if you haven't signed up on the T8OG.com forums, do so and post a few threads. Let's make sure this T-9 comes to Minnesota!! beret:)

hey I'll be strapped for money but could I ref to work off the play (half and half) please.
I don't think that works with the charity scenarios. The refs are already volunteering, and all the proceeds go to charity.
Remember guys, when you register at T8OG, you need to make some posts and look somewhat active. They need to be active referrals to count for Badger (and for the T9).

As for building out at the Miranda base, I hadn't really given that much thought, but final decisions have to come from Darrin AND the land owner. I don't really know IF something needs to be built for Miranda, but trust me: during game play, you'll know when you're at Miranda. I'll make sure they have some sort of "base."
I like your enthusiasm to help ref, Podoz, but Thalion is 100% right. Charity games mean that the staff isn't paid, and I'm relying 100% on my great teammates to ref this one for free, because I'M not even getting a dime from the proceeds. I want to toss as much money as I can towards the Minnesota Military Families Foundation. They need it more than I do.
Finally, Thalion brings another point home. Please, it's not just enough to sign up on my behalf, but they need you to pipe up periodically on the Tiberius Owners Group forums. Post your thoughts, opinions, and questions regularly to help solidify your signing up as legitimate. After March, you can fade away, but your participation BEFORE March ends really helps me out. I soooooo want to be able to add a Tiberius Tag-9 to the list of prizes. Help me, help you. beret:)
Thanks so much,
Badger
As a base for Miranda, Damage would like to be able to bring all their goodies there, so that we dont have to exit to the parking staging to get supplies. Will this be possible? Also, will we have air / c02 there?
Badger
02-28-2008, 01:58 PM
Ed_D,
I think that's a great idea, for you guys to bring your stuff to a safe area out there. I'll talk to Darrin if he ever comes back from "Middle Earth" to see what I can do for you guys. As for air/CO2, I might need you guys to meet me halfway and bring air, if I supply CO2 at your base. I'd make it well known that the supplies at Miranda are for the Reavers only, and not for anyone to siphon off of during play.

You can find a way. Just don't play two walk-on games and then you have the cash.
I'm actually thinking that by this logic, I may not be to very many walk-on games at all. There's the Hunt, GBG, OK D-Day, and BSV, and others all in this short time span (not to mention a Jungle Rumble each month). I'll still be playing twice a month at least, but it'll be fun.
Worst case, you could volunteer to ref with the Militia guys all day. :) I know they'd let you do that.

There's the neutral character, River. She has several unique skills, and as I understand it might be worth points like another objective (can Badger confirm/correct me on this?)
The only way to get her on your side instead of non-aligned is by means of one of the handlers. Each team has two of them. They find her and she comes under Browncoat/Alliance (depending on the team the handler is playing for) control until the handler in question is eliminated, at which point she returns to non-aligned status until the next handler is in the area.
That's the in-game answer to them.

What does she do when she is nuetral??
She either hides to stay in the game or eliminates players on either side, much like a Reaver. All she has to do in order to come back into the game is find a good place where no one else is, and be back in the game. She'll have a dedicated referee with at all times.
Otherwise, Thalion is right, she'll be under a side's control if they have one or two of their handlers with her.

Everyone,
As of today, I have been informed that the Alliance general needed to step down for personal reasons, but a new general has graciously taken his place. Mad Max of Team Fugazi out of Chicago will now be the new Operative for this game. His XO, Rock, will be his second in command for the game. Please welcome Mad Max and Rock to the game, and give them the same loyalties as you would Spyder.

God as my witness, I'd love to get a patch together, but I'm trying to keep my costs down so I can donate as much as possible to the MMFF. I kept my entry fee down too to make it attractive for you guys to play, so having a patch would end up raising your entry fees, and that's not something I wish to do this first time around. I guess I'd first think, am I on television? That is quite the weapon and would surely like to win it. Another great prize Badger!/AKA
Sweet, rock on, Vander! beret:)
Is someone on this forums a part of SpecOps Brigade? Or, should I contact them myself? Either way, I'm all for getting the word out.
I posted the info of the game of the SpecOps forum, and I made a game in the gamelocator so hopefully we can draw more people in... I also made a topic in the Great Lakes Scenario Paintball forum so hopefully that'll do a trick :)

Everyone,
It was just announced on the T8OG.com forums that I won the Tag-9 Ranger! I will promptly add that to the list of prizes for the Battle of Serenity Valley game!
I want to thank every one of you that signed up for that forums. Please, continue to use that forums, even though the contest is over. It is a great resource for Tiberius information and also full of very honorable players from around the world.
Now it's up to you to register for this game before it's too late. July 1st will creep up sooner than you think. If you're a character in the game, secure your spot by registering and paying for your spot so I don't have to give it to someone else.

I know a guy on the SO forums from Winnepeg who says he's coming down here and playing for us Browncoats as well.
This is going to be a great game.
Also, guys, we've already been introduced to two tanks coming to this event.
The Militia's tank will play for the Alliance, the Sentinels tank will return to portray Serenity, just a bit better armed than the original Firefly class ship :)

Tank Rules:
There have been some questions about tanks for the BSV game. Here are basics you need to know. If I have anything further to add, I'll be sure to post them. Thanks.
****************
1) MPH
Your tank can never go above 5-7 mph while on the field. This is for pedestrian safety. You will be assigned a tank referee who will walk alongside your tank at all times. You must always listen to your referee and never drive off without him/her.
2) Visual arc
Your driver must have a 360 degree visual arc on the tank. Your driver must be able to see in all directions for tank safety as well as pedestrian safety. No exceptions.
3) Main gun safety devices
Your tank guns must all have BBDs (barrel blocking devices) for each barrel on the tank. When eliminated, your gunner must exit the vehicle and place BBDs on all the external barrels. This is again for everyone's safety traveling off the field and in the staging area. No exceptions.
4) Stay on the trails
Your tank must adhere to the tank designated trails at all times. Your driver is NEVER allowed to deviate from the trails. Doing so is submissable as violation of rules and terminated from play. Driving around players by going off the path is not acceptable. There are definite differences between foot trails and tank paths. You must stay on tank paths only.
5) Eliminations
Your tank is eliminated when a Nerf rocket hits the tank from any angle. This is one of the main reasons why you will be assigned a tank referee. Once the referee observes your tank being struck with a Nerf rocket, you are eliminated. Again, you must apply all BBDs to your barrels and proceed off the field before you can be reinserted.
6) Barrel FPS
All tank guns must fire beneath 280 FPS, and will be subject to inspections just like any other marker on the field. Failure to comply will result in keeping your tank from play, until the situation is corrected.
7) Main gun Nerf rocket shots
Your tank is allowed to fire Nerf rockets of your own at bunkers. You are never allowed to fire directly upon players themselves. A direct hit to a bunker means everyone inside the bunker at the time will be eliminated. You can also eliminate another tank with a direct shot at the side of their tank. Direct hits to players results in that tank's elimination. Be careful of what you are shooting at during play.
8) Ground troops
Ground troops must keep back from the tank during travel by at least ten (10) feet at all times. Only the tank referee is allowed to be closer. Any ground troop that tries to get within the danger zone of a tank is immediately eliminated, and their player card will get a punch. No exceptions to this ruling. This applies to friendly AND opposing players.
9) Identity flags
Please allow your tank to have definite side identification. Preferably a colored flag on a short pole coming off the top of the tank. If you cannot find a flag, use the team color duct tape to clearly identify the tank's side. Unmarked tanks will not be allowed onto the field.
10) Elimination Identification
White will be the identifying mark for an eliminated tank. Please provide a white flag of some sort, large enough for easy recognition, so that players will immediately tell if your tank is eliminated. Hang a white towel, wave a white flag, or find some way to show yourselves that your tank is out.
If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to post it. I hope these "ten commandments" are livable to your situation, as they are pretty standard rules for tanks. The terrain at Splat Tag is fairly hilly, so be sure your tank can climb the hills with ease, and have excellent brakes for downhill slopes.
If your tank is built on an automobile chassis, talk to Darrin about your tank. I believe he might have reservations about tanks of that nature. Smaller vehicles, such as Argos, Mules, Gators, ATVs and such, are permissable. I think it has to do with size of the tank, and whether or not your tank can easily turn around on the paths if necessary. Again, Darrin will have the final say on larger tanks.
Thanks,
Badger

Just a friendly reminder as I tally up the registrations so far. The following people have visited the BSV site and signed up, but haven't sent in their payments yet. They are:

Nick Rotter

Out of curiosity, has it been officially decided how River will be "captured" is she is wild? If it has, just post the link here, and I'll slap myself for my stupidity.
Badger
06-19-2008, 09:22 AM
River starts out neutral in the field, with her own referee assigned to her. She can go anywhere and shoot anyone, including Reavers. However, once one or two of a side's handlers (Hands of Blue, or Simon Tam - Shepherd Book) arrive within sight of her, they call out to her, and she MUST go to them. She can only be freed if her handlers are shot out.
If she's freed by normal opposing forces, she becomes neutral again. If she's freed and the other side's handlers are there, she must go to them instead.
River reinserts anywhere on the field her referee deems it's safe for her. She will not be reinserted in a hot zone. She always inserts as neutral.
Points for controlling River are collected at the top of each hour. Whoever has control of her at five p.m., however, owns her for the entire remaining hour for the final battle. She plays, however, as a normal player for the final hour.
Hope that helps. Let the slapping commence... beret:)

Therefore, our fix for this challenge is this. When you come in the morning to register, PLEASE COME UP TO THE REGISTER BOOTH AS A GROUP, so all your men/women are accounted for. This will help us ensure that your people are counted as being paid, instead of having to dig deep for cash that morning. Stay as a group and let your leader speak on your behalf. Thank you.

I haven't given it a full count, but my estimates are about 60 through PayPal, about 10 through CC Military Surplus, and Darrin says he has a couple who went through him.
Today, I'm getting inundated with emails about people finally getting their money in. If the rest of the day is anything like this morning, then our numbers will swell for sure. I don't blame people for having to worry about HFTC first, and GBG XIV second.
I'm told through Darrin to not let that be a precursor to how many will show. For his 710 that showed for GBG XIV, only about 100 pre-registered. We'll have a very good showing, I'm confident in that. This will be one to remember!

Early registration is now closed. However...
About a week back, I ordered HBO's Rome (both seasons) on Amazon.com. It's really good, by the way. Anyway, when the box arrived, inside there was an envelope asking me to donate a used cell phone for U.S. troops. That got me thinking.
If you show up the morning of the game to register, and bring me a used cell phone to donate, I'll honor the pre-registration price as before ($30). Let's get a ton of cell phones together so I can mail them in and further help the troops out. I now give you roughly 19 days to find a cell phone and continue to save yourself $5 in entry fee!
Good luck, and have fun at Battle of Serenity Valley! beret:)
