I saw two different numbers on the site for the event - a max player count of 400, and a max player count of 800.
What's the right number?

I'm pretty sure it's 800, but I doubt that we'll get that number (as much as I wish we would).

I was trying my best to take Darrin's normal rules about giant games and adapt them to my site, since it's being played at Splat Tag. I must have missed a number in the shuffle. Therefore, I'll split the difference and take anywhere between 400 and 800 players. lol If you show ready to play, I really won't turn you away. beret:)

Most of my guys should be at this.. I believe we are all paying in at the door...
I really am hesitant on giving you a actual head count from my guys Badger but lets just go with around 6-8 or so. I honestly think thats a little low, but I would rather just give you and underguesstimate.
I will see you guys out there for sure.
The (sponsored/organized) teams were separated on the Spec ops forum, have they been posted on the this forum? ( I really dont want to look through all 26 pages of this Thread. I was just a little curious to see how the teams are being separated and what not...
See you guys on the 20th for sure!:scared0012:

Here's the last count I can confirm Brando,
Alliance:
-Wild Bunch
-Aces High
-Mayhem
-Bunker Busters
-Fugazi (don't know how many people they have coming, but the general is from this team)
Browncoats:
-Working Class Heroes
-Konoha
-Sentinels
-Badger Brigade
If any team not listed would like to speak up, by all means, I'd like to know ahead of time as well as my opponents.
Last I checked, Woodland Security had expressed interest in working with the Browncoats, but so far I haven't heard confirmation that they were registered and in.

Badger, I might be coming in to this one, but possibly as a fulltime videographer ( unless I get tempted to do some FPS footages). I want to document the whole scenario game as much as possible. I might be taking some stills too. Do I have your permission to make a vid of the whole thing?
woodland will be playing for the browncoats atm i'm trying to get a head count of how many of us are going up... i'll let you know when i get it thalion
The Pelican Brigade is attending, but I don't know how many and if I will be commanding our group into this battle. I have got to complete my house B4 I am able to attend.(Wifes Orders).
If I am not able, one of our Generals will be in charge, the PBPBC will also be paying at the gate and are comming in open to a side although the Aces High Team wanted us to side with them. So we'll leave it up to you to make that decision. I personnaly hope to see you all there, it will trim my life ten years if I'm not.:(/AKA

Hey everyone,
I don't know who is trying, but I have to warn you, the pre-registration form is now CLOSED. I am still getting some "blank" emails in my account from people trying to register for the game. If you can still see the registration form online, I apologize, but please know that early registration is closed. From this point on, you'll have to register that Sunday morning of the 20th.
Thanks,

Farmland will be playing for the browncoats. As usual, we're slow at things and I doubt if anyone's registered yet. Also, since there's a pretty high overlap with Damage - I'm sure we'll be playing with modest numbers.

Hi, all.
I registered on this board just so I could post for this thread :D
I am totally in love with the idea of a Serenity game.
I had heard about it from a group of friends who actually introduced me to paintball 6 years ago (need I say I'm an addict now?). We were all pretty excited, being big Firefly fans and all - but just a few days after I registered they all said they couldn't come :(
(Traitors... Oughta be pushed out the nearest airlock...)
Oh well, I'll still attend and still try to get a few people to join.
One of my friends plays D-Day, but for me this will be my first scenario game, and I have never played at Splat Tag before, either, so I have a few questions which I hope you'll be OK with me posting here.
1. Since I only ever played short walk-on games, how do big scenario games usually differ from small games? Do people tend to stay in huge assault groups or small sneaking groups? What can you tell me that will make it easier for me? Is camouflage normal or even advisable? (I wish I had a long brown coat, but I figure it'll be hot enough...). Are there any pictures from previous scenario games I could look at? A friend just pointed out to me that the scenario games he has been on were not all-day games, but half hour to two hour "missions" - how is this game gonna be? All day "everything goes" or with "pre-defined breaks"?
2. What are the fields like at Splat Tag? Is it lots of open space or woods/shrubs? I like to sneak, so is this field "sneakable"? Same as 1 - any pictures that I could check out? I am also wondering about this because if it is recommendable to bring extra paint and air along on the field, then this might make it a lot harder to stay hidden...
3. Will there be an official lunch break time, or do we eat as we go along?
4. Badger, first if all thanks for the great work you're doing! Am I missing something, or is the T-9 not listed in the prize section?
5. I'd rather buy paint on-site - there WILL be enough paint for the whole event, right? (a friend and I are known as "case-a-kill", hehe)
6. kyle925 - do you need help editing the video (been doing lots of video capturing, editing and burning to DVD for my family)? And how would I be able to get a copy of it and any other pictures that might be taken? :-)
Please let me know if these questions are in any way off-topic, and I'll email them directly to badger (aren't you the lucky one? *g*).
Man, I can't wait - I'm already shivering with excitement :-)
BTW: I'll likely be playing at the Combat Zone the day before - time to test my new air tank!
PS: I'm a little concerned with all the professional teams playing - makes me wonder if I'll even be any use on the field - thoughts on that?
Thanks!

The biggest differences are the sheer size (both in terms of team size and of field size) and the fact that the game depends on points, not a single objective. Points are earned by several means in this scenario, as explained on the scenario website.
There's a mix of larger assault groups and small "sneaking" groups at most games. Camo is certainly always a common thing, but I don't really employ it (especially this game - I'll be in-character with my assigned role of Simon Tam). For photos, take a look at http://www.giantgame.com/paintball/pictures.htm for pictures from games that have been played at Splat Tag. Ignore the "big open field" photos though, as that area is not in play for this event.
2. What are the fields like at Splat Tag? Is it lots of open space or woods/shrubs? I like to sneak, so is this field "sneakable"? Same as 1 - any pictures that I could check out? Lots of hills, I mean, lots and lots of hills. Really, consider yourself warned. Aside from that, there's some locations with more open woods (less shrubbery and more solid trees) and there's plenty of areas with a lot of soft cover and shrubbery/brush.
I personally try to carry as much paint as I need for the day on me, maybe going out to the car to refill once. If you are willing to take more breaks (or use less paint), you are free to do so.
3. Will there be an official lunch break time, or do we eat as we go along?
If it's like most of Splat Tag's events, there is no official break. If it's like the Hunt for the Cure, there is a one-hour break. Plan as if it won't happen, then if it does you're still fine anyway.
5. I'd rather buy paint on-site - there WILL be enough paint for the whole event, right? (a friend and I are known as "case-a-kill", hehe)
Don't worry -- there'll be paint. Splat Tag has never run out of field paint.
PS: I'm a little concerned with all the professional teams playing - makes me wonder if I'll even be any use on the field - thoughts on that?
I can't think of any true professional teams coming.
Sure, teams can be more competitive, and maybe some teams are very skilled, but at the end of the day all of us "team players" are out there having fun as well, and we can all still be taken out with a single shot.

For the T-9 question, the guy who runs the T8OG.com site hasn't sent me anything. He claims he sent me the marker through the mail, but nothing has arrived. He then claimed he'd send me money so I could just buy one at CC Military Surplus, but again, nothing has arrived.
I've tried to send him PMs, but now I can't do anything on that site. I can't post, I can't PM anyone, I really can't do anything there. At this point, I'm going to have to write it off as "he never planned on sending me anything." It sucks...

Great, that's exactly what I was looking for! I'm downloading them all right now so I can look at them later (faster than waiting for each picture to download by itself).
Lots of hills, I mean, lots and lots of hills. Really, consider yourself warned.
I do!
(...consider myself warned) :)

Weeeeell... I don't have enough tubes to carry 2000+ rounds ... :)
Maybe I can find a small backpack to take along with extra paint and my CO2 tanks for backup...
If it's like most of Splat Tag's events, there is no official break.
So this will not be a day divided into separate battles but rather one long day of continuous "war", right?
I can't think of any true professional teams coming.
Well, "Damage Inc" etc sounds a mite scare if you get my meaning...
And some of the equipment I see in pictures looks like it cost 10x what I spent on my little Tippman Custom Pro (well, except for the 20" barrel, hehe).
I know there's professional paintballing out there, mostly indoors with people sliding on their knees and running like crazy - I played indoors once - never again! Well, I was worried that we might have professionals out there that will take me out before I get a chance to fire one shot, but I am hopeful with my new air tank! police:)
Oh, I completely forgot to also thank Darrin to make this possible!
You may not remember me, but I still owe you from when you brought some people to the Combat Zone so I could show paintball to my Austrian guest! Thanks again for that, too!

Indoor paintball is fun, given the right crowd. I play indoor in the winter with a Tac8 or pump guns.
We did have a professional paintballer out at Splat Tag a few weeks back for World Paintball Day, but that's a different story...
As for getting taken out, even if you're "hit" early on, it doesn't matter. This game has reinsertions (basically, go back to a specified point just off the field, and at certain intervals the insertion "window" is open, and all dead players in the area can re-enter the field as live players).
Badger, I can still post and PM on T8OG. If you want me to, I could always give it a try myself.

I'm less worried about getting taken out a few times than about getting taken out so quickly each time I come back in that I don't get a chance to do anything
Nah, I'm sure I'll be fine - I hope... Most of all I hope that I'll find a good group to hang on to - one thing that sometimes bugs me when playing with strangers is that you sometimes just can't trust them or rely on them. I got shot in the back by my own team mates too often to trust easily, or left alone to protect the VIP when the plan was to have 2 or 3 more people along...

I've said many-O-times that the best way to f#ck up a plan is to put it into action. I've been shot by my own teammates, been shot at immediately after reinsertion, sent many a squad to their deaths, gone an entire day without having any confirmed kills, and lost every game I've ever generaled. But, it's the nature of the game and no two games are ever alike.
Whatcha gonna do, ya know? beret:)
Also, here is some theme music to put you in the mood...
Firefly Theme Song
Main Title Theme Written by: Joss Whedon
Performed by: Sonny Rhodes
Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
There's no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me...

Oh another quick question:
How does refilling your tanks work?
I have an air tank and some CO2 tanks just in case.
Some pictures I found showed people filling their tanks out in the open...
I doubt you'd let newbies do that themselves, but I figured I'd ask.
(With my new air tank, I'm not even sure yet how it IS filled - I think through the thinner valve, but I don't even know that!).

Granted, of the 7, two are in the tank and one is playing a neutral character (River), so we really only have 4 of us as Browncoats on the ground.

I wish I could say I'm bringing people - my friends who introduced me both to Firefly AND paintball also told me about this game and were very excited. Only AFTER I had signed up did they tell me that they were ALL gonna pass on this game :-(
I tried to convince a few of them, but without success.
A few have a wedding to go to (and will play paintball on Friday), others have already booked to play paintball on Saturday (Combat Zone - I'll actually most likely go to that one, too, BUT I will also be there on Sunday).
Meanwhile I have another question:
I found this link in one of your forums:
http://webdog.specialopspaintball.com/video/tipclip/
Lots of nice videos (very goofy, but also very helpful), and at least 2 of them deal with scenario games.
Now they mention different roles in a game, e.g. Medic, Engineer etc., and I know from the Serenity game rules that you can buy a Medic etc. with money or food, but will any side have any of those to start with?
Or will everyone be a regular soldier (except for the already pre-defined characters)?
(Is it July 20 yet?????)
And no, I'm not tired of Firefly quotes yet ;-) Still watching - still flying...
Shaman

Generally speaking, it is up to the scenario generals to purchase such units. Everyone starts as a regular soldier, the bread and butter, but if you would like to do one of the roles be sure to speak up and volunteer for the job! :)
Badger
07-11-2008, 01:50 PM
both teams will not start with medics. They must be purchased once your team starts finding money/Fruity-Oaty bars out on the field. Money will be kept by the general for points, or turned in for purchases. If he spends the money, it will be secretly re-disbursed back out on the field to be found later. Therefore, ALWAYS keep your eyes peeled for money bags.
At the morning briefing, I'll show you all an example of a money bag and a F-O bar so you know what to look for.

Cool.
This opened another question (please tell me to stop when you've had enough, hehe):
Since the General and XO of a team give the orders, that would imply that the soldiers always know where they are.
Now, if the game lasts all day as a continuous head-on battle with a few missions thrown in, then there's bound to be plenty of players split off the main group not knowing where their officers are.
How is that handled?
Is the game more or less divided into missions where only a few groups go out to try to accomplish the mission, and when it's done they come back to base and to their officers, or ... ?
(By now I watched a third scenario game video from the site I quoted - I'm trying, guys :) )
Badger
07-11-2008, 02:26 PM
The general and XO typically stay in a shielded-off tent and divvy out the orders. However, that might make it a bit boring for them, so I've set it up where they might have to personally lead a mission for completion. One never knows what's up in my head...
Yes, some will go out and try to accomplish a mission while the great many others will just beat back the opposing forces. I'm hoping that the generals will find it in their team's best interest to pick new people for each mission, rather than just letting one small group have all the fun. Whenever I generaled, it was usually, "who feels ready to take on a mission?" I never bothered with playing favorites. I figured time was of the essence.
I've demanded that both sides have a general and XO. If the generals wish to create a greater hierarchy of rank beyond that, then that's up to them. Usually team leaders act as mid-level officers from there. However they want to do it is up to them. Once the fireworks go up and start the game, my job is to hand out missions and record points.
By the way, in order to get the most out of this game, it would be great if you were familiar with the works of Chiang Xu. beret:)

I do apologize for pulling the registration from the store, but initially it was meant for early registrations only. Sorry about that. That's one of the things I've learned about hosting a game like this.
I sincerely hope that didn't affect anyone's decision on coming out to the game on Sunday. Please know that we are prepared to accommodate every player that shows. Sorry for any inconvenience to you if you're one of the ones that went in there to grab a registration.

"Earth-That-Was" could no longer sustain
our numbers, we were so many.
We found a new solar system: Dozens of planets
and hundreds of moons.
Each one terraformed, a process taking decades,
to support human life. To be new Earths.
The central planets formed the Alliance.
Ruled by an interplanetary parliament, the Alliance
was a beacon of civilization.
The savage outer planets were not so enlightened
and refused Alliance control.
The war was devastating.
But the Alliance's victory over the Independents
ensured a safer universe.
And now, everyone can enjoy the comfort

I'm guessing you need to use your car, or bring your own gazeebo type enclosure and tables. Unless Splat tag does it differently, this is the first scenario there that I will have gone to there.

If you have an interior zipper-style pocket in your vest, that'd be an ideal location.
Similar concepts include: zipped in a backpack with your hydration bladder, zipped in a pouch on the vest, etc. If you're running with a pod pack, you'll have to get a bit more creative (but Flurry pod packs have a zipper pocet, so you're good then too).
Just don't leave it in any velcro, snap, or button type pockets -- keys can slip out of these in the middle of the game, leaving you with the horrible situation of being unable to return home in the evening.

BRAVO! BRAVO! Just finished the movie "Seerenity" ( thanks Ish!). This is going to be some sweeeeeeet scenario. Good concept Badger. And boy! oh boy! Watch out for them Reavers. These guys are baaaaaad! I'm definitely going to hook up w/ the Reavers and follow their carnage. I also think Damage inc will bring their A-game to wreck havoc against the two sides ( I hope w/ matching scary costumes). This will be an epic vid. BTW, I want to inform the players that I will definitely go around and ask people ( who are willing) to show off their gears ( ala woodsball warrior). I want to show the arsenals and cool gears b/n the browncoats and the alliance side. Also, WHOEVER WANTS TO VOLUNTEER AND WANTS TO BE IN THE VID, I need some staged paintball/woodsball moves for some cool footages. I might need some really tight action shots suuch as sliding, jumping, cool military moves, etc. But again, voluntary and not in the heat of the battle.

Kyle- I'll gladly volunteer just this time I need to remember to find you during break unlike at the hunt.
Also I'm all set for this I have 2 waivers signed and ready (I usually forget them the night before but a 2am printing helps).

I don't have any good moves (other than the prairie dog, hehe - I can duck REALLY fast on incoming fire!), but I'll gladly be in it! (Especially if I can get a copy later somehow! *hint hint*)
Badger/Thalion: Are there other air/paint charge stations (air, not co2) around the field, or do we have to go to the insertion point to refill?
I think this might have been mentioned before, but I don't remember...
Also, the waivers - are they the regular Splat Tag waivers?
I'll print and sign one right now just in case.
Well, I just finished a day at the Combat Zone, and I'm aching a little :) But I can't wait for tomorrow!!! drool:)

... and misbehave we did!
Thanks so much and a great Hurraaah to Badger for organizing this great and fun event!
It would have been even more fun if I had been on the winning side, but I guess I can't blame Badger for that :D
Also great freebies and prizes!
If you have a moment, could you post some statistics about the game, i.e. how many pre-registered and on-the-fly attendees (the final count was 273, right?) and the rundown on the scores?
Also, I would love to see what all the missions where - I only heard about 4 of them (one was the opposing team's goal).
Reavers: I really hated your guts out there on the field!!! Which means:
Mission accomplished! You truly created havoc and chaos on the field!
Now the next question is:
When will we do it again next year???????

Badger, thanks much for running this event.
Darrin, thanks for hosting.
Mustangman and Erndogg, it was an honor. I'm glad to have served for you.
Browncoats, you all made me proud today. I'm grateful that you guys kept morale high from "game on" to "game over" - the good and the bad, it made no difference.
Alliance, good clean fight. Hat's off to all of you (except for you Shaman tongue:) , j/k buddy).
Also, Badger, if you are willing to run another one of these and need the help, the Sentinels will be happy to help make another game possible. If you host another one and don't need our help, we'll gladly play again.
See you guys at Splat Tag in the future,

I second all the notions above! Thanks to everyone, both sides, for fighting with you and against you. I really had tons of fun!
Badger, thanks for organizing this. If you want a River Ref for another time, I'd happily oblige now that I know the ropes.
Darrin, thanks for hosting the event (and for being one of the people to yell directions to me at the final battle when my gogs fogged up).
Damage, Inc. - I swear, I almost peed my pants when you came to Persephone when I was the only one there. You guys were wonderful in costume and in play... er, rather, you were wonderful for what you were supposed to do, but I agree with the rest here when I say you were a pain in the hindquarters! Kudos!

Everyone,
I'm so sore and wore out, I can't even tell ya. And I didn't even play in the game!
This game was a concept back in September of 2007, sitting around with friends watching Firefly on TV. We started wondering, "hmmm, how would this work as a scenario event?"
Since then, I'd been "hard at work" at work creating all of the graphics you saw for this game, and secretly printing out what was needed and smuggled home. lol All of the ID cards, the waivers, the maps, the posters, and the signage was a result of that.
I hoped that most of you enjoyed the opening words to the movie, Serenity, as you drove in. I didn't have to do that, but thought it would add just a little bit more to the experience if you read the signs and got into the spirit of the game.
The planet signs were also done at work, where I went to Google Images and found pictures of planets. If you do the same, you'll probably recognize some of the pictures I downloaded and used. The planet posts with the T dowel to designate who owns the bases was an idea swiped from Special Forces way back in 2001. That's how they did it there at the time, and I thought it was a cool idea. I brought the dowel idea into this game again, and hoped you liked that too. beret:)
The props were a culmination of either buying the stuff, collecting it from others, or making them myself. The fruity-oaty bars came from Rick Michel's deck project, and I wrapped each one with tin foil, the label that I printed out, and finally covered in packing tape. The money bags were poker chips and washers sewn into 40 cloth bags after having iron-on logos on each side. (yes, I create work for myself...)
Even the generals' bags were purchased at CC Military Surplus and sewn on patches from the movies to signify the sides. I got those patches off Ebay, and there are plenty more if you look there.
The ref shirts came from Ebay too, in a sense, because the freebie Blue Sun tan shirts came from there too. I contacted the seller and asked for more, then came back and asked if he would print me 25 white Blue Sun shirts and put REF on the backs. He's a BIG Firefly fan and was happy to do so for me.
The missions were all based on the plot from Firefly. Somewhere I have the list of missions electronically and will post them once I find them. The generals will know that the beginning missions were relatively easy, since it meant going from one of their planets to another, without having to "cross the line" into enemy territory. However, by about mission 3-4, it meant doing so.
I also gave them five secret missions that they could also do, if they had a mission ref readily available. Those got harder with the higher number on the envelope, with secret mission #5 going to Miranda to take the holodisc back to their main bases.
The Reaver concept came to me when I saw Damage Inc. guys all dressed in chainmail, torn shirts, spikes, bare skin, knives, etc. anyway. I thought, "my God, they dress like them already!!" So, it was a no-brainer to ask them to step up, and step up they did.
As for referees, it was obvious I'd need more refs than Splat Tag has on hand, so I needed the help of my team, the Minnesota Militia Paintball Team. I had a good number show up, but was still missing more. In the end, I was short on refs, even though my count leading up to the 20th said I would have enough. I don't know if you noticed, but yes, I was short on refs. However, we made it through regardless, and I thank you all for accepting that and playing honorably to meet me half-way on that.
The end battle was the Train Job for three reasons. One, it was different than most end battles you might be used to. Instead of it being a paint-waster, it was still a scenario. Instead of it being just a clash of players on players, it was a push to another side. Second, I was going to do an actual Battle of Serenity Valley, but the valley that Wild Bunch did for their HFTC was completely grown over, and you couldn't see the action like their game. Third, it was still a scenario from the movie. Episode Two of Firefly is "The Train Job" where the Firefly crew has to steal from the train going to Paradisio. I WAS going to have the Alliance side carry three to four wooden crates, but those are expensive. Rope is cheap, so I tied a series of loops onto a cord of rope and had players hold onto those.
That's my story. That's how I put this game together. It was a constant thought process all the way through to the end, but even so you can't think of everything. What sounds good in my head and on paper might suck in practice when the game starts, but for the most part, this game was a raging success.
Will I do this game again? I'm sorry, but this was a one-time deal. My team is ragged from reffing it, and I'm ragged from hosting it. I now understand what Darrin goes through with each Giant Big Game, and I bow before him for doing it. Yes, I know I made more work for myself than needed, but that's how I am, I put my whole 100% into the game, and it taxes me.
As for my team, they have a HUGE appreciation for the refs that control the games time and time again. I don't think you'll ever hear a peep of complaint from the MMPT ever again. We have stepped into your shoes and know what a bugger that can be. Nate, get new shoes, they smell. LOL (just kiddin...)
I'll have stats for you later, because right now I plan on crashing again and waking up sometime late this afternoon. Thanks all who came out to the game, and I hope to hear stories about the experience for a long time. That was my ultimate goal. I can cross this off life's list that I hosted a scenario event. beret:)
Sincerely to all of you,
Badger

- Thanks Badger/Darrin for giving me video access to this whole scenario.
- Thanks to both generals ( Mustang/MadMax) for giving me good footages of each briefings.
-Thanks to the Sentinels ( Thalion/Jarred) for giving me access to some great tank footages.
- Thanks to Damage inc. for giving me a glimpse of the dark Reaver's Lair. (" LET'S EAT SOME PEOPLE" AAARGH!)
- Thanks to the players and letting me shoot some vids on them and having to manuever around my irritating tripod vid set up.
- Thanks to my 2 aching knees for not cramping up on going back and forth to the Browncoats HQ, Alliance HQ, Reavers HQ (Miranda) and running around the different planets to try capture the whole story.
I believe I have some good footages of the whole thing from the starting point to the "Train " battle. I'm a little bit disappointed at myself for some "shaky" shots and I hope I can correct it w/ some digital magic once I get down to some painstaking vid editing in the next couple of weeks. I hope I can come up w/ a good final product of this whole epic scenario. TBA on when it is coming. And sorry, not much pics on this one.

Sore...
Great game, so hot and humid back in the dark forest.
Most everyone hucked a complete days worth of gear, paint & air out to the base. To keep with the role of Reavers we attempted to remain on field throughout the whole game, for the most part it worked. There was a little confusion out at Meranda, it was to be expected since we had almost 20 players attempting to clean masks, reload paint, chrono & all that jazz while camping in a live base. help:)
The scenario was fresh, the field felt a bit new & overlooking some of the swearing the players were cool.
Thanks to everyone that kept there cool when the field heated up. I had not shot a semi in a long time & I know that I was lured into throwing some paint.
I really dont think that I overshot anyone, but I am used to only shooting one ball at a time & it felt overkill.
I personally dont whine when I get lit up & I appreciated those that I shot choosing the high road and accepting it.
Almost forgot,
Bryce Larson picked up MVP!
Great job, IMO you have really stepped up your game this year.

Well I have to say that was one of the best scenario's I have played so far, Thank you Badger for putting the concepts all together and making it work and thank you to all that helped. The heat all most killed me though.
I hope everything went the way you wanted it to Badger, it seemed flawless from a player point of view as far as I am concerned.
Krutsie thanks for the banter, it was fun playing against you and thanks for the surrender option that would of left a mark that close you sneaky little sod lol :)
I had a blast during that last push with the train. Incredible fire fights all the way through till the end.
I hope everyone had as much fun as I did, and I can’t wait to see the video footage.
Again thanks to Badger and his crew.
Can”t wait to play again, hope to see some of you out there again

Honestly, I would consider it if I had the chance to even come close to what Badger accomplished.
My reality is, I'm working with a team of 6 active members with two more members in different branches of the US military. Even if they were on leave, that puts me to only 8, not nearly enough manpower to run a scenario.
If I call in some family of team members, I may get it up to 10-12 total, but that's still pretty light manpower wise.
The next real question is, would people be more interested in a second Firefly/Serenity themed event, or would they rather just have a scenario with a similar feel to Badger's BSV event, but with a fully different storyline/theme. I only mention that because it's far easier to draft up something with a different story but similar feel to it than it is to come up with an event based on the same storyline and similar feel -- a new event means new missions, new props, and new potential twists, and with how great a job Badger did with the Firefly/Serenity theme, I'm not convinced I could even come close if I stayed to the same theme. (honestly, I'm not even sure I could come close starting from scratch with all new everything)
I do have a list of things I'd like to do/try someday in paintball, and I'm already getting to cross one item off the list (GBG general this June). Hosting a scenario is on that list, but I don't know if that is going to happen this year (or even the next year).
NOTE: The above post is not a promise to host any such event. It is solely observations, hypotheticals, and speculations.

Bah, humbug! :-)
Seriously, I personally would love another Serenity/Firefly themed game. I'm not that much interested in real war re-enactments, but this game was different - my first scenario game, ever!
Maybe it might be worth checking with Badger how he got so many volunteers together, or maybe Badger might be willing to participate in a smaller capacity to another Serenity event and just help out with some of the story/event planning...
Just putting out ideas since I already somehow managed to revive this old thread ;-)

I'm pretty sure that they were all team members/family of team members/associates of team members of the MN Militia.
But I could be wrong.
EDIT: As far as war re-enactment goes, the only time I get into that sort of event is OK D-Day. I completely agree new and different scenarios, such as Badger's BSV, the Wild Bunch's Hunt for the Cure, and Darrin's Giant Big Game are the way to go.
EDIT EDIT: Ah, why not. IF there's enough support for an event, IF I can conjure up adequate staffing, and IF there's Darrin's approval, we may have an event at some point. If I'm realistic, I don't see the staffing happening.
I'm still not promising anything, as so far I see three guys (cutstep, WreckingCrew, and semmelbroesel) that want this, and I still don't see Darrin's OK and I don't see Badger's OK (I'll do a different theme without his blessing, but I won't touch his BSV without his blessing for fear of ruining a good thing if this doesn't work out).
I have three different ideas that could be fleshed out, but 1 requires Badger's blessing (and a whole new level of thinking to come up with new missions that fit the theme and are still just as fun), 1 Darrin has a themed event already involved in (one of the jungle rumbles), and the last I'm not sure if I could rally the support for among the player base.
And they all require staff as well as Darrin's approval.
Badger

If you all go back to page 41 of this HUGE thread, and reread what I posted at the very top, you will get a better understanding of how much effort went into this game. Even with all of the MMPT I could muster for this event, we were still short-staffed. To make that game run smoothly, you need a ref at every planet base, a ref for every tank, a ref for the River character, mission refs for each party going out, and even some roving refs if you can get it.
I needed roughly 25 refs, and got perhaps 17. Some refs had to run back and forth between bases to keep the peace, as well as count points. Theoretically they shouldn't have had to do that. Bless you all for putting up with the shortage of refs.
If I had an ample amount of refs each year, I'd consider doing it perhaps, but something like this, I'm surprised I got refs at all because everyone wants to play the game, hardly anyone wants to referee it.
That's just the referee issue. To create all of those props again would take a ton of time, as well as any and all signage created. I still have all the art saved, but the outputs equalled about 2 reams of paper and a lot of lamination.
Hopefully this sheds more light on what goes on behind the scenes at a scenario event. The Wild Bunch can probably agree to that. It takes a lot of work to put one of these larger games on, and a lot of work to clean up after it too.

I fully understand and appreciate that, and I hope you by now have realized how much we all have enjoyed this game and all the work you put into it!
Like the original show it was based on, this game was a work of (he)art!
And watching the video (that I finally found) made me very sad that it was all over.
Maybe we'll be lucky, and more and more people will see that this thread has been revived, and just maybe enough volunteers may come together ... ?

04-14-2009, 01:32 PM
Here's another question:
Since all the signs were laminated, did they and the props survive?
That might be another factor that might make a re-run of the game either easier or harder...
Also, if you need any designing or printing to be done, I'd be willing to offer myself - I have Photoshop and DTP experience and have a little color laser printer, and I'd be willing to donate any paper and toner I'd have to use if we can get something like this going again!
But to make myself absolutely clear:
If this or a similar event was to happen again, I'll be out on the field PLAYING :)
Not Ref'ing :-)
