The problem with headset cameras while playing paintball is that your videos have that "Blair Witch Project" look to them. It's murder for those who suffer motion sickness. lol

A lot of them sound like this, too:
heavy breathing ... mumble mumble ... heavy breathing ... heavy breathing ... ... mumble mumble SCREAM ... bang! bang! bang! ... ... ... OUT! mumble mumble ...
Audio is really tough. Guns are loud and masks make people sound like their mouths are filled with marbles.

you can always get good footage though, and just put it to some awesome music, with out the actual sound.

I tend to do that, although I leave the sound in at a reduced level. :)

ScenarioDreams (maker of the T-board) have their new "BlindSight system (http://www.scenariodreams.com/productpages/blindsight.htm)"
The range might be good enough that a sneaky !@$&@ could stuff himself into a bush near some important target and relay real-time video back to his team.

I want to see the scenario player willing to have a camera extended out about a yard from his/her head for an entire game. That was good footage, though. Interesting camera... beret:)

I just upgraded my cam to an HD aiptek. So far, the cheapest Hi-def cam ($149) out there considering HD cams cost around $500. It is very light and the footages are hi-def crisp. Check out some pics and a test vid (sorry, just in my garage, but the qlty is good even in low light). This is not a helmetcam per say, but small (and very light) enought to mount to your helmet or gun.

I would agree that the audio is usually TERRIBLE in paintball videos, and it's no mystery why. Heavy breathing, gear rattle, shooting and shouting all come together to confuse the viewer. But can't most camcorders utilize external microphones? Like, on a cable, I mean? I think the mic placement needs to be adjusted, is all. I mean...if the mic is behind your head, or on the shoulder opposite your marker, maybe it would cut down on all that barking? Either that, or people need to think about spending just as much on a good quality mic as they would on a camera.
Better still, people should start hiring themselves out as "wartime journalists" whose sole business on the field is to record the action and the players. That's how you get the best footage anyways. Either the players themselves or the field could pay for this person's efforts. And I do believe this should be something that somebody gets paid for, so that they put the extra effort into getting good shots, and can afford to pay for adequate equipment.

I would think if someone got a good quality camera put it in a plastic box (or something to protect it) then walk around at take vid or better have 2 people doing that.
What sort of mount is that on your marker.

one question i have is, is there a way to turn off the sound at the recorder and mount a mike somewhere else? IMO in vids where the camera is mounted on the marker, all you hear is wind noise and the marker firing. Kylester, i do think you do some of the best vids out there though. you should consider coming to DDay to do some live video for the large MN group that will be there, since our videographer had a hard time last year( you know who you aretongue:) )

I would imagine so. My helmetcamera has the mic down the cord between the recorder and the actual camera.
I agree that marker-mounted videos aren't the greatest with audio.

laughing:) Guilty as charged.
I'll be bringing my helmetcam setup v 2.0 (some new components, same basic function as the old one) to D-Day, and hopefully the problems won't carry on again.
In my defense, I had two things against me - the camera was acting up and my car battery decided it didn't like the OK heat. I showed up at the field probably around 10ish am.

Thanks! I really wanted to join you guys on DDay but can't fit it in my sched b/n family and work. I will try to shoot for 2009 DDay. As for taking vids, I definitely would get footages of any great event especially DDay.

It is a modified mount I made for my X7. I got the bracket from my extra warp feeder from AGD, and I installed the mount of a monopod.

have any of you thought of hiring some one to hold a boom mike all day behind you. a good mike with the fuzzy stuff would be perfect.

I tried that with my camera last year.

As you can see it did not work out that well. When I shoot my left shoulder turns in and all you can see in my gun. I tried it on the other shoulder and my mask got in the way. I hope you can figure something out because that would be a great view.
Just bought the a Sony HD Crash Cam (HXR-MC1)

you need a super wide angle lens to achieve the "over the person" view. Or maybe a long bracket w/c extends to your back ( very hard to do in woodsball).
I have been working on this of almost a year.
The video below was done with my latest camera harness. Camera was with the V.I.O set up. I like this a lot.
The new HD Sony have zoom and can take pictures. Will have video from that soon, after I protect the camera a little more.
I think the key might be to still play but to follow another player and keep him in front of you.

That's pretty sweet angle, seems like it just needs to pan right a bit and be a little further back.
Been debating getting a camera system. First I gotta consider the cash issue and second i'm not sure I want people to see how I play sniper:)

SWEEEEEEEET!
Darrin these paintball vids are going to be awesome! HD over the shoulder woodsball videos will be able to depict the game a lot better then a reff trying to tape through all the trees or a gun/mask cam. People always point their gun at the ground and then you don't know what's going on. but with this we can see what your doing and what the opposition is doing a whole lot better.

That angle is awesome, but are you going to have problems with the rig for it catching on trees and stuff?

you are correct! I will probably use this rig in an open field. it is just another angle i need to spice up my vids ( just be for video purposes and not for actual plays).
